Title

INVESTIGATE ELECTRICAL ACTIVITY SOME OF UPPER EXTREMITY MUSCLES IN SUCCESSFUL AND UNSUCCESSFUL SHOTS IN PROFESSIONAL BASKETBALL PLAYERS

Pages

  61-67

Abstract

Background and Aim: The purpose of the present study was to compare the electrical activity some of upper extremity muscles of successful versus unsuccessful BASKETBALL SHOTs in two distances 4.25, 6.25 m.Materials and Methods: Six professional basketball players (age=23±2.09 years) participated in the study and they were members of Iranian premier basketball league. Electrical activity of muscles were recorded by ME6000 T16 electromyogram devices in frequency of 1000 Hz. Wilcoxon test was used for significant differences between successful versus unsuccessful shots (p£0.05). The output results was include activity time, mean muscle activity and the area under the curve of electric potential (integrated EMG) that investigate in the Anterior Deltoid (AD), Triceps Brachii (TB) and Flexor Carpi Radialis (FCR) muscles. Results: Between parameters investigated in two distances 4.25, 6.25 m no significant differences were observed in successful and unsuccessful BASKETBALL SHOTs. In successful shots between two distances 4.25, 6.25 m, integrated EMG (p£0.037) and activity time (p£0.028) of TB muscle and mean muscle activity of AD (p£0.019) and FCR muscles (p£0.049) shown to be significantly greater in 6.25 m versus 4.25 m shots. Conclusion: In general, it seems that with increasing distance from the basket, increase muscle activity and integrated EMG of TB muscle plays an important role in jump shot.
