Abstract

Considering the geographical location of Iran and the lengthy coastlines in north and south, various geographical and environmental conditions is dominant in Iranian coasts which effect the integrated management of these areas. Due to the especial environmental condition dominant in this coastal city, its coasts have especial features. This paper attempts to determine the strategic priorities needed for integrated coastal zone management in Anzali by understanding the features of Anzali coasts, using the SWOT analysis, and determining the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. The results reveal that Anzali has abundant strengths and opportunities for economic development; although, due to unique and sensitive environmental circumstances, designing an integrated coastal zone management plan in this city will face with a complex situation. The output of the SWOT analysis defines the priority of applying aggressive and competitive strategies to reach the ICZM goals. Therefore, using the strengths and opportunities, the weaknesses can be decreased to a minimum level and the threats can be removed.
