Abstract

In investigating the development of the sense of wine in the Persian literature, we should first mention the period of Khorasani style and the related styles. Prior to these periods and before the emergence and expansion of Iraqi style in the scope of Persian literature, wine had been used in its real and objective sense. Nevertheless, following the development of mysticism and its impact on literature, wine is being used in mystical and metaphorical senses, in addition to its ordinary and objective senses. It should be noted that there are considerable differences between the origin, nature, effects and characteristics of these two types of wine, often leading to an opposition world (after 1342), wine has always been used in a mystical sense. Hence, it does not have any material and observable reflection, but it is spiritual and transcendental, with signs of abstraction and monotheism in it. Instances of this MYSTICAL WINE should be sought for in categories such as unity, LOVE, divine secrets, and MARTYRDOM. This type of sacred and spiritual wine bas been referred to as 'cleansing wine' (badeye tahoor), the earliest wine (meye alast), UNITY WINE (sahbaye vahdat), LOVE illumination, and absorbing nectar of union with the beloved in the poems of the revolution poets. Concepts such as TAVERN (kharabat), hangover (khomar), ecstasy, sobriety, and other concepts related to wine undergo change following the developments made in its meaning, and take on senses compatible with mystical concepts. Finally, the committed and idealistic poets (in the literature of revolution and resistance) have suggested some religious concepts such as trusteeship (velayat), ghadir, kowsar, and even holy Imams (peace be upon them) as the instances and manifestations of this type of superior wine.
