Abstract

Trust is one of the most significant factors of social capital theory that indicates the importance of social relationships. While the existing literature in Iran is predominantly based the society-centered approach, the institution-centered approach has received a little attention. The present study contributes to filling this gap in the existing literature. Methodologically, the research findings presented and discussed in this paper are based on a questionnaire-based survey, which includes 384 individuals aged 5-65 years old in Shiraz. The data have been analyzed with IBM SPSS. Cronbach's alpha of the indicators is above 0. 7. According to the research findings, an individual’ s attitude toward the quality and performance of governmental institutions explains 54% of trust variable changes. Furthermore, the findings confirm that social trust is positively impacted by such determinants as the security feeling, institutional trust, attitude toward truth-telling, attitude toward promise-keeping and attitude toward fairness. However, the findings of this study do not support a significant impact of attitude toward solidarity variable on social trust.
