The Effectiveness of Teaching Religious-Based Spiritual Concepts on Hope in Children

Abstract

 The present study aims at investigating the effectiveness of teaching religious-based Spiritual Concepts on Children's Hope. In this study, a single-case experimental design (A-B type or frequent direct observation) with one-month follow-up was used. For this purpose, after purposeful available sampling, three female students of the third grade elementary school who scored higher than 8 in the Hopelessness scale of Kazdin & et. al (1983) were selected through Purposeful sampling and then received religious-based spiritual interventions in 13 45-minut sessions. In order to collect the data, Kazdin’ s Hopelessness scale was used in three stages of baseline, intervention and follow-up; and finally, data were analyzed using graphical analysis and improvement percentage. The results of the improvement percentage in all three participants after the intervention showed a significant increase in their Hope scores, which is still significant despite a three percent decrease in the one-month follow-up period. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that teaching religious-based Spiritual Concepts has a significant positive effect on increasing Children's Hope.
