Abstract

This study is aimed at determining the effectiveness of learning to gain hope with emphasis on the impact of Quranic teachings on the spiritual health of the women supported by the Welfare Organization in Ahvaz, Iran. The research design is experimental with pretest-posttest, control group and follow-up test. The statistical population consisted of all the women supported by the social work clinics of Ahvaz Welfare Organization. The sample was randomly selected and assigned to experimental and control groups. The experimental group participated in eight 90-minute sessions of hope-gaining intervention which focused on Quranic teachings. The Spiritual Well-Being Questionnaire (SWBS) and the Islamic Hope Scale were used to collect the data. The obtained data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and covariance analysis. The findings revealed that learning to gain hope with emphasis on the Quranic teachings in group increased the spiritual well-being of the women in the experimental group, and this effect persisted until the follow-up stage. In sum, it can be said that the findings of the study indicate the need to include the program of learning to gain hope in the educational programs of families and women.
