Abstract

In this study, following a review of over 200 research works, the factors influencing the promotion of hijab and chastity are identetified and presented within the framework of a conceptual model relying on systems thinking and using the system dynamics method. Then, on the basis of the system dynamics methodology, the causal relationships between the variables are explained. It is shown that hijab and chstity culture is shaped in interaction with different subsystems, including social arenas, domestic and Western media, governmental and private educational systems, and governmen’s policies on promoting the culture and economy of Islamic and non-Islamic clothing, and an individual’s decision about hijab and chstity is made in the dynamic context of ideological principles and beliefs, mental ideals, and behaviors. Furthermore, the behavioral loops influencing ideological principles, mental ideals, and behaviors resulting from the causal interaction between variables and affecting cultural behaviours in the short and long terms are identified. Accordingly, the strategic findings aimed at promoting hijab and chstity culture in the short and long terms are presented and their compatibility with the nation's "comprehensive map of cultural engineering" is evaluated.
