Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the role of tolerating uncertainty and emotion regulation in predicting marital satisfaction among patients with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. The research method is correlational descriptive and the statistical population includes all the OCD patients referring to Razi Psychiatric Hospital in Tabriz, Iran. A sample of 60 subjects was selected using the simple random sampling method and the obtained data were analyzed by Regression Test. The results indicated that marital satisfaction of OCD patients is significantly related to uncertainty about the future (r=0.45; p<0.000), champing (r=-0.28; p<0.01), positive reappraisal (r=0.28; p<0.01), catastrophizing (r=0.30; p<0.00), and overall score of emotion regulation (r=0.32; p<0.006). The results of the regression analysis revealed that 34 percent and 32 percent of the total variance in marital satisfaction in patients with OCD are explained on the basis of some elements of intolerance of uncertainty and emotion regulation, respectively. The results of the present study could have some implications for paving the way for getting more social support for these patients and they can be a precedent for more extensive research in this field.
