Abstract

Language is an alive and changing phenomenon. Changes in time, place, and culture might change the whole structure of a language or part of it such as its lexicon. Arabic as the language of the QURAN is no exception. In this article one branch of QURANic and linguistic science that is the SEMANTIC CHANGES of lexicons in the QURAN and Arabic language prior to the revelation of the book and particularly in the PRE-ISLAMIC POETRY will be examined to see whether the words used in the QURAN kept their pre-Islamic meanings or were used with new meanings and thus turned into special QURANic terms. The article deals with the changes in meaning of these terms since with the increase in the depth of and expanse of linguistic studies new looks are needed to be presented.
