Abstract

The migration of THE QARA KHITAIS from northern China to TRANSOXIANA in the first half of the sixth century was met with resistance of the Seljuq state. The confrontation of these invaders with the Seljuqid Sultan Sanjar in the Battle of QATWAN, which is one of major and effective events in the history of Iran and the Islamic world, gave rise to considerable social and economic consequences. Using a descriptive-analytic method, this article seeks to besides explaining this war and the interaction of THE QARA KHITAIS with the region' s inhabitants, answer this question that what were the social consequences of THE QARA KHITAIS' conquest for TRANSOXIANA and how they occurred. The results show that the social and economic conditions of the region were deeply influenced by THE QARA KHITAIS' conquering the region, their cultural and religious differences with the natives living there, in addition to the ungovernability of the Qarluqs. Some of these consequences were social insecurity, economic downturn, disturbance in trade, agriculture, animal husbandry and demographic changes in the region.
