Abstract

The problem of SHADOW ECONOMY, and hidden economic activities are of major concern in most economies of word. These activities are known to have adverse effect on economic growth. In this study, after a brief review of the concept of shadows economy and its dimensions, we have investigated the effect of the volume of SHADOW ECONOMY on economic growth in IRAN during 1981-2007. Using a vector error correction model (VECM). We estimate the impact of SHADOW ECONOMY by fuzzy logic method, and concluded that an increase of one percent in the size of SHADOW ECONOMY results in 0.38 percent decline in the growth rate of the economy.
