Abstract

The effects of chemical and physical treatments on the storage life of Valencia and local oranges of Jiroft were investigated. After harvesting, oranges were examined with different treatments such as Carnoba WAX, Thiabendazole FUNGICIDE and SHRINK WRAPPING or combined of these treatments. All the fruits were transferred to a cold storage and kept for 3 months at 10°C and 85-90% relative humidity (RH). Each month, the quality tests such as titratable acidity (TA), total soluble solids (TSS), weight loss, sensory evaluation and incidence of decay were done for all treatments. Titratable acidity of the oranges decreased but weight loss and the incidence of decay increased during the storage. SHRINK WRAPPING treatment and the combined treatment of SHRINK WRAPPING and FUNGICIDE significantly decreased weight loss in both oranges. Sensory evaluation showed that the combined treatment of SHRINK WRAPPING and FUNGICIDE was effective in preventing of weight loss and controlling of decay in Valencia and local oranges.
