Abstract

This article consists of three main parts. The first part deals with the biography of Behbahānī, his main distinction, his academic activities, his books and writings and his students. The second part concerns a brief account of the historical roots of the school of Exertion (followers of ijtihād) and Traditionism (Akhbāris), followed by a study of controversial issues in the two schools of thought. The last part of the article is a study of Behbahānī"s juridical opinions based on his exertion. The opinions are mainly derived frOIpins invaluable book al-Fawā"ed al-Hā"eriyyah.
