Title

U.S. GEOPOLITICAL BASES IN THE CHANGING POST COLD WAR SYSTEM

Pages

  65-84

Abstract

The most important geostrategic territories, in the post cold war era, were those depending on marine world trade and Eurasia continental power. But today, the geopolitical map of passing world system differs from its past map. Four regions of ten geopolitical regions are located in marine territory. In the passing system, geostrategic and geopolitical territories are not stabilized yet. The correspondence between geostrategic and geopolitical territories, the collapse of the geostrategic territories and the union of the geopolitical ones are all the results of post cold war geostrategic system and it is most likely that there will be at least five geostrategic and geopolitical territories. Geostrategic system is indicative of the fact that the attainment of power is the essence of all geopolitical paradigms, both traditional and critical. This principle has always governed the approach adopted by Aegemen powers; in both traditional geopolitical paradigms, derived from orthodox tradition, and new liberal GEOPOLITICS in the POST COLD WAR SYSTEM. In the passing period of world system, US is trying to define the strategy and geopoIitic codes of different territories corresponding to its international interests. The geostrategic tendency of US, in the world in general and in the Middle East in particular, is affected by the abstract and attached change indexes of the structure of geostrategic system. Among these indexes, the role of geopolitical factors is more outstanding in the US DIPLOMACY. Although their effects on three eras of US foreign policy (geostrategic isolation, strategic role finding and globalization) have been different. Until the cold war, three main geopolitical tendencies of US have been as follows: GEOSTRATEGY in the shadow of internal GEOPOLITICS, strategic intervention to geopolitical regression, and selective intervention to periodical internalization.Meanwhile, the Middle East can still play the central role in the panorama of the geostrategic changes of the world.
