Abstract

The purpose of the present study is to compare the pregnancy outcome and health of NEWBORNs in athlete and non-ATHLETE MOTHERs. Athlete was referred to a mother engaged in physical activities up to the ninth month of her pregnancy. These activities had to be carried out at least 3 sessions per week and 15 to 30 minutes per session in aerobic jogging or slow running, swimming, moderate exercises and different kinds of sports. P.E. teachers and non-P.E. teachers in Mashad were selected as subjects. They had their first pregnancy and they aged between 24 and 32. All subjects continued their activities up to the seventh month of their pregnancy. After interviewing 1033 individuals: or in an unnatural way; the ones who were suffering form serious mothers. Finally considering the condition of sports in each group. 50 ATHLETE MOTHERs and 150 non-athlete ones were engaged in the study. The method of study gathered information initially through interview for individual and occupational characteristics. Then information about DELIVERY was obtained through DELIVERY medical files. The samples were gathered, and the variables of study in two groups were accordingly specified: the length of the pregnancy, the length of second stage of labor, weight of the NEWBORN, and APGAR score at the time of birth. Finally, data were statistically analyzed by T-Student and Chi-square method. The results indicated that there is no significant difference between the length of the pregnancy and second stage of labor and APGAR score of the first minute of birth. however, the weight of the NEWBORNs in ATHLETE MOTHERs was 160.93±34.41 grams lower than that in non-athlete ones. The difference was significant (P<0.05).
