Abstract

Despite of the disagreement and hence controversy regarding the prevention or permission for indulging in POETRY from the point of view of religious law, religious scholars have apparently not only appear tool but also were quite fond of POETRY and if they themselves were not capable of writing POETRY or were not willing to do so, They have usually studied POETRY and especially have made frequent use of and reference to works of POETRY. Imam SHAFEI was one of those scholars who had adopted a moderate position in regards to POETRY. He not only wrote POETRY himself, but also had studied the POETRY of others in relative detail. However, it should be mentioned that, POETRY was a kind of excuse for him, is main aim of indulging in POETRY was to spread the sublime teachings of religion and human virtues and morals or to illustrate the spiritual illuminations and feelings.
