Abstract

Background and aim: The issue of teenager delinquency is one of the most troubling issues in modern societies, and the family is the most important element affecting this delinquency. Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the attitude of delinquency in Teenagers based on parenting styles. Research methodology: This study is a descriptive correlational and its statistical population consists of 290 Teenagers aged 13 to 18 years in Khorramabad city in 1396 which was selected as the sample size by multistage cluster random sampling. Data was collected using Baumrind parenting styles questionnaires and attitudes toward Fazli delinquency. Pearson correlation coefficient, stepwise multiple regression and independent groups t-test were used for data analysis. Findings: Findings show that among girls and boys, authoritative parenting styles have a negative relationship with positive attitude to delinquency and a positive relationship with negative attitude to delinquency. On the other side, there is a positive relationship between authoritarian and lax parenting styles with a positive attitude to delinquency and a significant negative relationship with a negative attitude to delinquency. The results of stepwise multiple regression analysis also showed that only despotic parenting style among girls and boys can predict positive attitude to delinquency and among girls, authoritative parenting style can predict negative attitude to delinquency. But among boys, despotic and authoritarian parenting styles are able to predict a negative Attitude toward delinquency. Conclusion: The results of this study show that the positive Attitude toward delinquency is higher among boys than girls and the negative attitude among girls is more than boys. Given the importance of parenting styles in predicting adolescent delinquency attitudes, adolescent mental health officials and families should pay particular attention to this issue.
