Abstract

one of the most important problems facing Iran's banking system is the continuing increase in NON-PERFORMING LOANs (NPLs), which leads to a reduction of liquidity levels, disruption in the allocation of resources, and ultimately a decline in bank profits. This study examines factors affecting banking loans, including economic growth rate, average interest rate and so forth, among 17 Iranian COMMERCIAL BANKS during 2009 to 2016. In this paper, the ratio of loans to total assets was used as the dependent variable. The independent variables include deposits ratio, capital ratio, the ratio of NON-PERFORMING LOANs, the average interest rate on deposits and loans, bank size, inflation rate, required reserve ratio, and economic growth rate. The statistical method is panel data and Eviews8, respectively. The results indicate a negative impact of NPLs ratio, liquidity ratio, and average interest rate on lending, while deposit ratio and economic growth rate have positive impacts on loan lending by banks.
