Abstract

Protection of natural resources such as forest and grassland is essential for which we must do our best. Knowing this fact that sustainable tourism is a good means to create the appropriate fields of economy such as income and employment, we can rely on natural tourism. This study aimed to examine the positive and negative effects of tourism and ecotourism development on the conservation status of Vaz watershed. The watershed covers an area of 14102 hectares in the basin of northern Alborz which is located in the southern heights of Chamestan section. The population of the study consisted of the local people and tourists. The sample size was determined based on the Cochran formula 220. For this purpose after fulfilling field studies, three questionnaires on the levels of experts, local people and tourists on a Likert scale were prepared. A random sampling was used in this study. The variables of the study were analyzed using Kruskal– Wallis test and Spearman correlation coefficient. The obtained results showed that there was a meaningful relationship between the success of tourism projects and partnerships between local residents and tourism projects as well as the improvement of the livelihood of the residents of the understudy area.
