Abstract

The present qualitative research was conducted with the aim of identifying marital well-being challenges by the method of grounded theory and the data were collected via semi-constructed interviews. The population included all married people in Shiraz in 2018 and 22 people were purposefully selected as the sample, based on the theoretical saturation of the interview. For analyzing the data, the interviews were coded and the main and core themes were identified. According to the findings, the nine main themes were as follows: the gap of communication and interpersonal skills, sympathy, critical and creative thinking, coping and general well-being skills, decision-making and problem-solving skills, self-awareness; and sexual problems and marital relations, the shortage of happiness and love, and marital conflicts. In addition, the gap of individual and married life skills and the gap of marital satisfaction were identified as the two core themes. Based on the findings, it can be said that the lack of individual and married life skills and the marital dissatisfaction cause marital inefficiency and dissatisfaction in couples' life. That is an important challenge for marital well-being and the reduction of marital well-being will threaten the foundation of family.
