A strategic approach to the impact of high technology on technological innovation (Case Study: Defense Electronics Industry)

Abstract

 High technology defense organizations, due to specific characteristics, require more attention to capabilities, including technological innovation (product and Process innovation). For this reason, in this study, the impact of high technology (in a defensive environment) on the product and process innovation capability. The research methodology is exploratory and descriptive in terms of purpose, and is applied in terms of achievement. In order to extract or adapt the metrics (from literature) with the Iranian High-Tech defense organizations, the focus group method was used and the required data were collected in the form of a questionnaire from 58 defense organizations of the field of electronics. PLS (partial least squares) SEM used to analyses the data. Findings showed that High-Tech affects product innovation and process innovation and the capabilities of product and process innovation in defense environment, influence Product Performance in strategic dimension. In addition, the defense environment directly and indirectly (through the impact on the Product innovation capability) influences the performance of the defense product. The research findings lead managers of defense electronic industries to empower the organization in the field of product and process innovation with a strategic vision and taking advantage of the features of high-tech industry as an opportunity, not a threat.
