Abstract

Marital Infidelity always comes with a severe blow to the partner; this event causes some symptoms similar to posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) that is one of the most difficult problems in counseling and psychotherapy. The present study aimes to determine the effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment therapy on decreasing the symptoms of Emotional PTSD. Research method was semi-experimental with pretest and post-test with a control group. The research population comprised of 30 participants who had a 21 and over score in Emotional PTSD scale, were selected through available and purposeful sampling method and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. The experimental group received 9 sessions of acceptance and commitment group therapy, but the control group had no therapy. Finally data were analyzed at two statistical levels, descriptive and inferential statistics (ANCOVA). Results show that Acceptance and Commitment therapy is effective (P<0/001, F=478/37) in reducing the symptoms of Emotional PTSD of women affected by Infidelity.
