An Examination of Social Lifestyle of Imam Mahdi in the Face of the People of the Book

Abstract

 The lifestyle of the Fourteen Infallibles and the type of their interaction and association with different individuals and groups is important and significant for all Muslims, especially Shiites. According to Islamic teachings, the organization of the life of Muslims, both individual and social, and religious and worldly, depends on following the lifestyle and methods of the infallibles. Modeling and depending on the lives of the infallibles especially Imam Mahdi, whose occultation is the period of Imamate and his guardianship, is based on identifying their life and the type of interaction and association with different classes of people and different religions and cultures. This study, which is a qualitative research, has performed descriptive and analytical methods in collecting information through documentary and library methods and data processing. This paper seeks to understand the life of Imam Mahdi during his reappearance and world governance and the type of his interaction and treatment with different groups and individuals in various cultures and beliefs such as belief in Judaism and Christianity to provide the context for Shiites and true waiters of Imam Mahdi to model him, and also culturalize and implement his modeling in accordance with the requirements of the era of occultation in the Islamic government under the supervision of the Wali Faqih. In this regard, Islamic thinkers, based on Qur’anic, narrative and intellectual data, have proposed the type of interaction and treatment of the Imam Mahdi with the People of the Book in two stages of reappearance and world government in the form of a three-pronged approach: "Absolute tolerance and interaction attitude", "Absolute coercive and elimination attitude" and "combined and detailed attitude. " In fact, the third attitude is a combination of the first and second attitudes, i. e. tolerance and interaction in the age of reappearance, and violence and elimination in the age of world government. Mukhtar theory is based on the third attitude. The present paper interprets and justifies this claim by providing rational and narrative reasons.
