Abstract

This article deals with two hypotheses concerning Nezami Ganjavis (1140?-1217? A.D.) verse. Since Nezami drew extensively on the Quran and the Hadiths, the writer identifies two distinct structures in the poets exploitation of these two sources and, thus, concludes that they must have generally invaded and informed Nezamis whole notion of stylistics. The article also traces the strange and novel juxtapositions of words used in the Quran and the Hadiths in Nezamis verse to illustrate the origins of the poets contribution to making novel compound Persian expressions. It further argues that the compounds, including modifiers and the modified, which statistically abound in Nezamis verse, are his borrowings from the Quran and the Hadiths.
