Abstract

Purpose: Considering the purpose of the Cancer Institute as a national and international reference for cancer research in Iran and the special importance of managerial decisions in order to improve the implementation of the center's research policies, determining the status of cancer research articles compared to average of similar articles in the subject field, have been considered as a requirement. The purpose of this study is to determine the weight of scientific articles produced by the Cancer Institute of Tehran University of Medical Sciences using the normalization of articles on the basis of Citation Benchmarking. Methodology: The present study is an applied and descriptive scientometric research that has been done using library methods, network analysis and citation analysis. The research population includes all scientific articles of Cancer Institute of Tehran University of Medical Sciences indexed in PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science databases from 1965 to 2018. The method of data collection is observation that is collected through searching for organizational affiliation in selected databases. Findings: The findings of this study showed that the publication of the Cancer Institute papers had a growing trend from 1965 to 2018. The highest FWCI score in 2017 was 251. 68 and the lowest FWCI score in 2015 was 0. 04. The highest CNCI score for 2017 was 65. 88 and the lowest score for 2006 was 0. 04. The highest and lowest RCR scores were 147 in 2017 and 0. 04 in 2008 and 2011, respectively. The articles in the Scopus database are more effective than the other two databases. The most active authors are the researchers at the Cancer Institute. Most research has been published in the fields of breast, esophageal, gastric, surgery in cancer and radiotherapy. Conclustion: Citation Benchmarking, percentile rank and citation analysis are used to evaluate the quality of articles besides the quantity of them. Evaluating the quality and quantity of scientific papers can provide valuable information to Cancer Institute managers and policy makers in order to develop an innovative attitude.
