Abstract

This study is an exploratory effort for sociologically analyzing the concept of FORGIVENESS and determining its POTENTIAL, according to the cognitive SOCIAL CAPITAL. This article focuses on the associative dimension of FORGIVENESS; and based on the relation of forgiving person with the victim, FORGIVENESS POTENTIAL is conceptualized in two aspects: FORGIVENESS POTENTIAL toward oneself, and POTENTIAL toward the others. According to a survey is made on a sample of 378 citizens of Orumieh in cluster sampling method, the FORGIVENESS POTENTIAL average of 38/1 in 0-100 scale is a low rate. Also, when the people were victims, they would have more FORGIVENESS POTENTIAL (toward oneself) than when one of their family members was the victim (toward others). The exploratory results of the relation between the cognitive SOCIAL CAPITAL and the FORGIVENESS POTENTIAL have shown that the cognitive SOCIAL CAPITAL can increase 18% of the FORGIVENESS POTENTIAL. However, statistical findings have proven that the relation between SOCIAL CAPITAL and FORGIVENESS POTENTIAL toward others is a QUADRATIC PARABOLIC CURVE. In other words, the increase of SOCIAL CAPITAL to an average level has raised the FORGIVENESS POTENTIAL toward family, whereas the increase of SOCIAL CAPITAL decreased the FORGIVENESS POTENTIAL toward family members of a person.
