Abstract

The principle of prophetood is one of the most significant and common approaches in scriptures including the Quran and THE FOUR GOSPELS. The principles of PROPHETHOOD, the charter of teachings and da’va’h (call unto God) of Jesus Christ, as one of the Arch Prophets, have been seriously tackled in the Quran and THE FOUR GOSPELS, which, in turn, can be considered an essential step toward building proximity between the common teachings of Islam and Christianity and promoting them. In this paper, an attempt has been made to examine the PROPHETHOOD principles of Jesus Christ in THE FOUR GOSPELS and THE HOLY QURAN, on the one hand, and to explicate the common principles governing the charter of da’va’h and teachings of this great divine prophet such as ‘having faith in God’, ‘preaching about the celestial kingdom’, ‘completing and confirming the Torah’, ‘teaching and explicating the scripture’, and ‘resolving discrepancies in some Sharia’h rules’, on the other. At the end, the two important principles, i.e. Jesus Christ’s salvation role and self-sacrifice, are compared and evaluated in the clear teachings of THE FOUR GOSPELS and the verses of THE HOLY QURAN.
