Abstract

This survey aims at examining the function of families with young addict. Devising a methodology encompassing both qualitative and quantitative techniques, 30 families with young addict, comprising father, mother, and young addict (between 20-30 years of old) were interviewed and tested. The comparison group involved 30 families without young addict (control group ). The results show that physical and psychological presence of father in families, with young addicts, was very poor. In addition, the application of discipline was inappropriate and the control is seen to be dysfunctional. Family cohesion in these units, compared with families without young addict (comparison group), was weak and husband/wife and the parent/sibling conflicts were severe and remained unresolved.
