Abstract

Initiation Ceremony, in Ancient Iran, was held for a person who had reached the age of adolescence. The aim was to teach the youth (boy or girl) certain lessons before he or she entered this critical period of his or her life. Nevertheless, with the development of the Indo-Iranian society, the Initiation Ceremony was vastly reformed and the changes were so great that its building components could no longer be recognized in the later historical era. In this article, it has been endeavored to obtain information about Initiation Ceremony, in Ancient Iran, from epical stories. In other words, the author's aim has been to find "foot-steps" of Initiation Ceremony in the Iranian culture, from the epical stories. References have also been made to some societies (in Africa and elsewhere) that are still bounded to this Ceremony. Furthermore, effects of the Ceremony have also been investigated in the epical stories of "Killing the Dragon" by Rostam and Goshtasp.
