Abstract

In order to locate the territories that has been established from the third millennium RC. up to the emergence of Iranian tribes in the early first millenume B.C. and to discuss about the tribes who have settled there, the present article attempts to provide an image of HISTORICAL GEOGRAPHY of a region in western Iran known as "Central Zagros" cultural basin in the literature of archaeology, accomplished through a survey of Mesopotamian texts (that are the best documents about western Iran) and some Elamide texts. The territories so called as "Varhashe", "Simashki" and "Kassit" are some examples. Many Scholars have proposed different theories about the locating of these territories on the basis of the above mentioned texts. In this article, we discussed these view points and tried to reach some conclusions about the HISTORICAL GEOGRAPHY of this important cultural basin in the west of Iran within the mentioned period.
