Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of group Gestalt therapy on enhancement of life expectancy and self esteem in retired women of Behbahan’s education department.60 of these women who were randomly selected were then assigned to two experimental and control groups. The type of experimental design adopted was pretest posttest control group design. Following the implementation ofMiller’s life expectancy and eyzang’s self esteem questionnaires, the subjects who scored 1 standard deviation bellow the mean were further divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group was then subjected to experimental treatment (group Gestalt therapy) for 12 ninety mintue sessions after wich a posttest was administered to both groups. The results of data analysis revealed that group Gestalt therapy caused an increase in the level of life expectancy and self esteem of the retired women in the experimental group compared to those of the control group. The level of significacne is a<0.05 in this study.
