A NOVEL TECHNIQUE IN OPTIMAL WAVELET DESIGN FOR GAMMA SPECTRUM (CO-60) DE-NOISING

Abstract

 Introduction: In recent year, the ANALYSIS OF GAMMA-RAY spectrum using wavelet transform has been established as a new technique as first step in isotope identification. The advantage of wavelet analysis versus other methods is that the simultaneous analysis of the signal can be done over multi-scales.Materials and Methods: In this research, we design an optimal wavelet for CO-60 spectrum from NaI detectors.Its application to de-noise GAMMA SPECTRUM was evaluated in order to identify distorted and ambiguous isotope from Campton edge and scattered peaksResults: The results demonstrated that, the designed wavelet is very efficient than traditional wavelets, and can enhance Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) up to 11.5 %Conclusion: In this research an optimal wavelet was designed for de-noising of gamma rays spectrum which, in comparison with standard wavelets, is more capable in noise reduction. This optimal WAVELET DESIGN for nuclear spectrum can be useful for peak detection, localization and isotope identification.
