Abstract

A novel method was described for the solvent extraction of palladium. 2,2´ DITHIODIANILINE (DA) in low concentration in methyl isobutyl keton extracts palladium from aqueous solution. The Complex was extracted from an acidic aqueous solution into a methyl isobutyl keton layer. The absorbance was measured at 397nm and molar absorptivity found to he 1.46 106 mol-1 lit cm-1. The complex BA-Pd conforms to beer"s law over the range of 0.3-200 µg 1-1, The effect of pH concentration of DA, shaking time and the effectsof some matrix elements, such as, Ca, Hg, Ni, Cd, Ag, Cr, Mn and Pt on the extraction of palladium were investigated. The ratio of metal ion ligand was 1:1. The results obtained were compared by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectroscopy and a good agreement was found between the results.
