Abstract

One equivalent of nickel (II) chloride, NiCI2, with two equivalent of sodium or lithium salt of 2 - (benzylamino) pyridine (NaBAP or LiBAP) in THF leads to the formation of dark red solution. After filteration, some hexane was added as a layer. The residual of NaCI or LiCI separated out after 24 hours. After filteration, the light brownish microcrystalline compound separated upon standing overnight at-10°C after 24 hours. Several recystallization of this compound gives dark red brownish microcrystalline complex. Analytical data, molecular weight, and magnetic susceptibility of this complex confirm the formula [Ni(BAP)2]2 .
