Abstract

In RELIGIOUS EXPERIENCE,especially mystical experience, the problem of whether these experiences descirbe reality, or the problem of the objectivity of religious experiences, is fundamental, and for the purposes of theology it is especially important. RUDOLF OTTO (1869-1937), a German philosopher and theologian, holds that the objects ofnuminous experience are objective and are present in the external world. Oito has presented an interpretation of the common features of RELIGIOUS EXPERIENCE in terms of numinous experience. Otto claims that the objectivereality of the objects of RELIGIOUS EXPERIENCEcan be explained with reference to the nature of numinous experience. In this article Ottos principle claims in this regard and his arguments for them are reviewed
