Abstract

The population structure of JINGA SHRIMP (METAPENAEUS AFFINIS)-a commercially important species caught in STAKE NETs along the coastline of Hormuzgan Province-was investigated from 5th March to 20th. Nov. 1999.The results indicated that there was a high regression (r≥0.97) between the length and weight of JINGA SHRIMP and that it had an isometric growth. On the basis of length frequency analysis in the FISAT program, the growth parameter K computed to be 1.3 and 1.4 per annum for males and females, respectively, and L∞ computed 31.5 mm and 39.5 mm for males and females, respectively. It was predicted that the maximum carapace length would be 31.13 mm for males and 40.76 mm for females. The phi-prime (Ǿ) was calculated 7.24 for males and 7.61 for females which were close to phi-prime values in the other parts of the Persian Gulf.The research indicated that sex ratio was much lower than 1 in every month except March and May, and the number of females was much more than males. LM50 computed 25.4 mm in carapace length for females. Conditions of ovaries maturity stages indicated the occurrence of adults and juveniles in all months and the frequency of maturity stage IV rose to maximum in March and April in the STAKE NETs catch.
