EFFECT OF OZONE AND PHYSICAL TREATMENT ON HATCHING RATE OF IRANIAN STURGEON (ACIPENSER PERSICUS)

Abstract

 Having low half-life and free of environmentally harmful effects, OZONE is recognized as one of the most effective disinfectant and fungicide in aquaculture. The objective of this study was to assess the capability of ozonation and also PHYSICAL TREATMENT in HATCHING RATE enhancement. Two concentrations of 0.05 and 0.1 ppm OZONE with periodical injection mechanism (10 min) in two conditions of egg ozonation accompanied with PHYSICAL TREATMENT and without PHYSICAL TREATMENT were examined on HATCHING RATE.Egg ozonation with PHYSICAL TREATMENT has been resulted the greatest HATCHING RATE (80.6%). Ozonation without PHYSICAL TREATMENT and control treatment showed 58.1% and 31% HATCHING RATE, respectively. From the economic viewpoint, 0.05 ppm OZONE with PHYSICAL TREATMENT, having the HATCHING RATE of 79.8%, due to considerable minimization of energy consumption and ozonation system retention costs, indicated as the best treatment for fungal control. Very low correlation (r=0.09) was observed between hatchery water temperature and fungal infection percentage in control treatment.
