Abstract

Most studies show that "Information & Communication Technology", ICT, has had a positive effect on ECONOMIC productivity and GROWTH in developed countries during the 1990's. Some research show the same effect in developing countries as well. But the scope of study for such countries (including Islamic countries) with diversified economies is not quite explored yet. This article investigates and evaluates the relationship between ICT and ECONOMIC GROWTH among the ORGANIZATION OF THE ISLAMIC COUNTRIES, (OIC), based on the studies of Quah (2002) and Pohjola (2002). A panel-data approach using the investment data in ICT has been used to estimate the empirical model of the above countries in 1996-2004. The results of this study indicate that there is strong relationship between ECONOMIC GROWTH and ICT in the (OIC) countries during the period under study.
