Abstract

Sunlight changes berries growth and quality by affecting the photosynthesis efficiency and stimulating secondary metabolites pathways. This experiment was carried out to investigate effect of reflective and transparent polyethylene films on the improvement of quality and shorten the ripening period of grape (Vitis vinifera cv. Askari) in vineyards located in Sisakht, Kohgiloyeh Va Boyerahmad province. The results showed that both reflective and polyethylene films increased light reflection into the canopy which improved berry quality and hasten ripening time. Total soluble solids (TSS), pH, TSS/TA ratio, total phenols and ANTIOXIDANT CAPACITY were increased by mulching treatments. The efficacy of REFLECTIVE MULCH was better than polyethylene films. Therefore, reflective films can improve berries quality and can hasten ripening time in grapevine cultivated in mountainous climates with cold and short growing season.
