Abstract

The main purpose of this article is to review critically the sociological theories of immigrants adjustment with the main target society. The most significant theories which are concerned in this article include, functionalist, marginalisation, inter-cultural adjustment, and independent theory. Having discussed the inadequacies of these theories with regard to the explanation or factors affecting migrants adjustment process, in the final part of the article a comperhensive theory of adjustment is proposed. In this theory, three categories of factors affecting the immigrants adjustment process are distinguished: Factors of macro-level, factors of mildde-level, and factors of micro-level.
