Abstract

Zubahrayn (double-meter verse) is referred to as a poem that may be read in two meters. This happens when in the first reading the glottal stop appearing in the beginning of words is omitted and/ or the long and short vowels appearing in the end of words are pronounced long and short. In the second reading, the initial glottal stop is omitted and/or the quantity of the final vowels changes that is, the long vowels are pronounced short and the short vowels are pronounced long. In the old prosody, the deletion or retention of the initial glottal stop was ignored. Secondly, it was believed that the initial consonants must be doubled in spite of the logic of pronunciation and the common usage.
