Abstract

Neuropathic pain is ambiguous and is reported with different definitions. Until now there is no efficient drug to alleviate the neuropathic pain. Various drugs are used for alleviation of pain. In this research we tried to use Gabapentin and moringa's leaf hydroalcoholic extract for pain relief in an animal model. Wistar male rats weighting 180-220g were used. At first, rats were anesthetized by ketamine and xylazine. CCI induced by Bennett & Xie (1998) model. At 4, 8 and 12 day after surgery, hydroalcoholic extraction of moringa's leaf (200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg) and Gabapentin (5mg/kg) were injected intraperitoneally. Thermal hyperalgesia and mechanical allodynia were studied and compared with control groups. Gabapentin (5 mg/kg) and moringa 400 mg/kg showed significant reduction of both thermal hyperalgesia and mechanical allodynia in comparison with control groups in all experiments days. Moringa, 200 mg/kg, showed significant reduction only on thermal hyperalgesia at all experimental days. In conclusion, it is recommended that hydroalcoholic extract of moringa leaf to be used alone or along with a drug in alleviation of neuropathic pain syndrome.
