Abstract

LIDOCAINE is an important local anesthetic and usually used in human and veterinary medicine. LIDOCAINE provides local anesthesia by blocking of sodium channels in nerves. One of side effects of LIDOCAINE is CONVULSION, if it reaches at high concentration in blood. This drug produced CONVULSION at 25-50mg/kg in this model for evaluation of anticonvulsant agents. In the present study, we observed that RATs are resistant to LIDOCAINE in comparison to mice. LIDOCAINE did not produce CONVULSIONs at dose 100 and 200 mg/kg. This species variation maybe related to CNS biological variation of RATs and it maybe related to low sensitivity in RATs or other reasons. The result of this study can be used for research of this variation by physiologists and pharmacologists.
