Abstract

 IN SPITE OF EMERGING A PLENTY OF METHODS FOR ANALYSIS OF FUNCTIONAL MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGES (FMRI), USING THE CORRELATION-BASED STRATEGIES IS STILL A ROBUST APPROACH. IN FACT, TIME SERIES OF ACTIVE VOXELS (OF BRAIN) SHOW A GOOD CORRELATION WITH STIMULATION PATTERN. IN THIS PAPER, WE USED THE CORRELATION BETWEEN THE FMRI TIME SERIES AND THE BASES OF A SIGNAL SUBSPACE.WE FORMULATED THIS NEW IDEA THROUGH A LIKELIHOOD RATIO TEST, IN WHICH WE TESTED THE CORRELATION BETWEEN THE TIME SERIES OF A NEIGHBORHOOD AND BASES OF SUBSPACE. THE SUBSPACE MODELS THE ACTIVATION CONTENTS OF FMRI SIGNAL. THE PRESENTED METHOD HAS TWO ADVANTAGES OVER THE CONVENTIONAL CORRELATION METHOD. FIST: BY USING THE BASES OF A SIGNAL SUBSPACE, IT INCREASES THE FLEXIBILITY THROUGH DETECTING DIFFERENT SHAPES OF HEMODYNAMIC RESPONSE; SECOND: IT INCORPORATES THE SPATIAL DATA FOR ACTIVATION DETECTION, BY USING THE TIME SERIES OF A SPATIAL NEIGHBORHOOD.THE PROPOSED METHOD WAS APPLIED ON SIMULATED AND REAL FMRI DATA. AFTER DETECTING THE ACTIVATED VOXELS WITH THIS METHOD, THEY COMPARED WITH THAT OF CONVENTIONAL CORRELATION METHODS. THE RESULTS SHOW ITS SUPERIORITY OVER THE CONVENTIONAL CORRELATION-BASED METHODS.
