Abstract

 THIS STUDY, INVESTIGATED ON THE REMOVAL OF LIGNIN, BOD AND COD AT MAZANDARAN PULP AND PAPER INDUSTRIES EFFLUENTS. THE EFFLUENT SAMPLES COLLECTED AT OUTPUT AND BEFORE SEDIMENTATION AND DISCHARGE TO "TAJAN RIVER".THE METHOD WORKED IN THIS STUDY IS ELECTRO COAGULATION (ONE OF THE ELECTROCHEMICAL METHODS). THE AL, FE AND CU PLATES AS ELECTRODES REACTION WERE USED. INFLUENCE VARIES PARAMETERS SUCH AS VARIOUS CURRENT DENSITY (1 UNTIL 9 M A/CM2) AND VARIOUS ELECTROLYSIS TIME (2, 4, 6, 8 AND 10 MIN) FOR REMOVAL OF LIGNIN, BIOLOGICAL OXYGEN DEMAND (BOD) AND CHEMICAL OXYGEN DEMAND (COD) FROM MAZANDARAN PULP AND PAPER MILL EFFLUENTS WAS INVESTIGATED.IT WAS OBSERVED THAT EXPERIMENTS CARRIED OUT AT AN ELECTROLYSIS TIME OF 8 MIN, A CURRENT DENSITY OF 8 M A/CM2, CONCENTRATION OF 1 GR/L AT NACL AS AUXILIARY ELECTROLYTE AND DISTANCE BETWEEN ANODE AND CATHODE OF 2 CM, THE REMOVAL CAPACITIES OF LIGNIN, BOD AND COD, RESPECTIVELY, CONSIST OF:1. USING AN AL ELECTRODE: 87%, 84% AND 86%2. USING A FE ELECTRODE: 89%, 86% AND 81%3.USING A CU ELECTRODE: 77%, 76% AND 73%THE RESULTS SUGGEST THAT ELECTRO COAGULATION IS AN EFFECTIVE AND INEXPENSIVE METHOD FOR REDUCTION OF POLLUTION FROM PULP AND PAPER MILL EFFLUENTS AND THE OBSERVED THAT THE HIGHEST REMOVAL OF LIGNIN AND BOD WITH USING A FE ELECTRODE AND THE HIGHEST REMOVAL OF COD WITH USING AN AL ELECTRODE.
