 A LATERAL EFFECTIVE POTENTIAL WHICH ALLOWS A STRAIGHTFORWARD CALCULATION OF CARRIER STATES IN RIDGE QUANTUM WIRES IS CONSIDERED. THIS EFFECTIVE POTENTIAL IS USED TOGETHER WITH A SUITABLE COORDINATE TRANSFORMATION WHICH RESULTS IN TWO DECOUPLED ONE-DIMENSIONAL SCHRODINGER EQUATIONS WHICH ARE ANALYTICALLY SOLVED.
