Abstract

 DESTRUCTIVE EARTHQUAKES HAVE RECENTLY AFFECTED THE RESPONSE BEHAVIOR OF PILES WHEN THEY ARE UNDER LATERAL LOADS. MANY STUDIES HAVE RECENTLY BEEN PERFORMED TO GAIN INSIGHT INTO PILE BEHAVIORS, BUT STILL THERE ARE MANY PROBLEMS THAT NEED TO FURTHER STUDY. HOWEVER, FURTHER STUDIES CAN HELP ADDRESSING MANY PROBLEMS THAT CURRENTLY EXIST. IN COASTAL STRUCTURES, PILE FOUNDATIONS ARE SIMULTANEOUSLY EXPOSED TO VERTICAL AND LATERAL LOADS. GENERALLY, PILES ARE DESIGNED TO BEAR EXCESSIVE LOADS WHICH ARE HIDDEN IN SOFT LAYERS. COMMON DESIGNS DO NOT INCLUDE EFFECT OF VERTICAL LOAD ON LATERAL INTERACTIONS. IN CONVENTIONAL METHODS, PILES ARE SEPARATELY DEIGNED IN PROPORTIONATE WITH THE CAPACITY OF BEARING THE ANTICIPATED LOADS, THEN THEIR PLACE AND STATUS IS DETERMINED. THIS ARTICLE SEEKS TO CALCULATE PILE-SOIL-PILE LATERAL INTERACTIONS UNDER LATERAL HARMONIC BEARING IN THE PRESENCE OF STATIC VERTICAL LOAD. FOR THIS PURPOSE, DYNAMIC INTERACTION BETWEEN TWO PILES IS FOCUSED IN THE FORM OF AN ELASTIC-DYNAMICAL ANALYSIS WHICH PRESENTED BY NOVAK.
