Abstract

 THE DYNAMIC COMPACTION WHICH IS SUGGESTED AND USED FOR CONSOLIDATION OF THICK SOIL LAYERS SINCE DECADE 70, SEEMS TO BE USEFUL FOR LANDS RECOVERED FROM SEA. ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT CHARACTERISTICS OF DYNAMIC COMPACTION IS ITS REMARKABLE EFFECT WHICH LOWERS THE COSTS OF COMPRESSION PROJECTS. THE MAJOR PURPOSE OF DYNAMIC COMPACTION IS INCREASING THE LOADING CAPACITY AND, DECREASING THE SOIL SINKING, AND REMOVING THE MATERIAL LIQUEFACTION POTENTIAL IN COASTAL LANDS OR IN THE SEA. BECAUSE OF HIGH DENSITY OF SOIL AND THE NON-ECONOMIC NATURE OF CLASSIC COMPRESSION METHODS, THE DYNAMIC COMPACTION METHOD IS AN APPROPRIATE SOLUTION FOR SOIL CONSOLIDATION. BASED ON THE MATERIAL TYPE AND THE NEEDED DEPTH FOR COMPACTION, THE AVERAGE HEIGHT AND WEIGHT OF SINKER CAN BE DEFINED. FOR COMPACTION OF THE SURFACE SOIL LAYER WHICH IS THE RESULT OF INFLATION OF CRASH SITE MARGIN, THE HEAVY ROLLERS OR VIBRATION RAMMERS WITH WEIGHT OF ABOUT 8 TO 15 TONS ARE APPLIED. TO CONTROL THE RESULTS OF DYNAMIC COMPACTION OPERATION, THE DISK TEST WAS USED FOR FINDING COMPRESSED SOIL LOADING CAPACITY AND THE SPT TESTS WERE USED IN VARIOUS DEPTHS FOR FINDING THE SOIL CUT RESISTANCE AND MAKING SURE OF LACK OF LIQUEFACTION POTENTIAL.
