STUDY OF THE EFFECT OF PULSE INTENSITY ON THE HOLD UP IN A PULSED PACKED COLUMN

Abstract

 ONE OF THE EFFECTIVE PARAMETERS EFFECTIVE IN DESIGNING OF PULSED PACKED COLUMNS IS HOLD UP. THIS PARAMETER IS USED TO MEASURE THE SLIP VELOCITY AND OF COURSE TO ESTIMATE THE HEIGHT AND DIAMETER OF THE EXTRACTION COLUMN. THE MAIN OBJECTIVE OF THIS ARTICLE IS STUDY ON THE INFLUENCE OF PULSE INTENSITY ON THE HOLDUP AMOUNTS IN A PILOT PLANT PULSED PACKED COLUMN. ACCORDING TO THE INTERFACIAL TENSION EFFECT ON THE DROPS DIAMETER AND HOLD UP AMOUNTS ALONG THE PULSED PACKED COLUMN, THE LIQUID-LIQUID SYSTEMS USED WERE TOLUENE-WATER (HIGH INTERFACIAL TENSION) AND N-BUTYL ACETATE-WATER (MEDIUM INTERFACIAL TENSION). ALL EXPERIMENTS HAVE BEEN CARRIED OUT WITHOUT MASS TRANSFER. THE COMPARISON BETWEEN TWO SYSTEMS RESULTS SHOW THAT BY INCREASING THE PULSE INTENSITY VALUES, THE HOLDUP AMOUNTS FOR THE BOTH OF THE SYSTEMS INCREASE TOO, AND THE EFFECT OF PULSE INTENSITY ON THE HOLD UP FOR N-BUTYL ACETATE-WATER SYSTEM WHICH HAS LOWER INTEFACIAL TENSION, IS MORE THAN TOLUENE-WATER.
