SYNTHESIS AND SPECTROSCOPIC STUDIES OF ZNS@SIO2 CORE -SHELL NANOSTRUCTURE

Abstract

 SEMICONDUCTING NANOMATERIALS ARE OF GREAT INTEREST FOR THEIR UNIQUE SIZE DEPENDENT OPTICAL AND ELECTRICAL PROPERTIES. AS SIZE OF THE PARTICLE REDUCES TO NANO IT GETS HIGH SURFACE TO VOLUME RATIO AND INCREASED SURFACE STATES WHICH INFLUENCE THE CHEMICAL REACTIONS BY ALTERING TRANSITIONS OF ELECTRONS AND HOLES [1]. ESPECIALLY, ZNS IS IMPORTANT II–VI COMPOUND SEMICONDUCTORS WITH DIRECT BAND GAP ENERGY OF 3.7 EV AT 300 K AND HAVE PROMISING APPLICATIONS IN OPTOELECTRONIC DEVICE, SOLAR CELLS, PHOTOTRANSISTORS, PHOTODIODES, IR DETECTORS, TRANSPARENT ELECTRODES, PHOTO CATALYST FOR WASTEWATER TREATMENT, ETC. ZNS/SIO2 CORE/SHELL NANO COMPOSITES HAVE BEEN SYNTHESISED AT ROOM TEMPERATURE BY A SIMPLE WET CHEMICAL METHOD. THE PREPARED MATERIALS ARE CHARACTERIZED BY XRD, SEM, TEM, FT-IR, UV–VIS. XRAY DIFFRACTION PATTERN EXHIBITS PEAKS CORRESPOND TO OF SIO2 AND ZNS. THE MORPHOLOGICAL STUDIES REVEALED THE UNIFORMITY IN SIZE DISTRIBUTION WITH CORE SIZE OF 300 NM AND SHELL THICKNESS OF 14 NM.
